Below is how we replace the DC power jack on the most common Compaq R3000 laptop.

Taking off the bottom covers as well as the heat sink off of the motherboard.

Taking the keyboard cover as well as the keyboard off of the compaq R3000. 

Once the whole thing is disassembled as you can see the jack is in a bad shape.  Due to too much shortage and oxydation the plus leg is no longer contacting the board, the negative is in bad shape as well.
